maps

The following are custom map data in various formats for a few mountain bike trails in the Savannah area. Note that the Garmin formats are geo-referenced raster files only compatible with the Garmin Colorado, Oregon, and Dakota running recent software upgrades. See the formats section below for an explanation of the different formats.

I welcome any comments, corrections, or suggestions for additional areas to map; please email me with any contributions.

See SAVMTB for frequent notifications and scheduled group rides on these trails. Also, check out the Savannah Bicycle Campaign and the Coastal Georgia Greenway for local cycling news and events.

Tom Triplett Park Trails : Pooler, GA (REV G | 2009.11.06)
The main trail is about 7 miles and is fairly well-maintained by local riding groups. However, the full network contains 16+ miles of trails. Note that several sections of the trail tend to remain muddy for several days following significant precipitation. I would recommend not riding during such times to avoid trail damage, or perhaps stick to the west section of the park which has generally better drainage.

Skidaway Island Trails : Savannah, GA (REV A | 2009.11.09)
The main trail highlighted is about 4 miles one way. While the full trail network is not as extensive as TTP, it has the advantages that it dries much faster and the scenery is more interesting. The trail erosion noted is where the trail runs along the edge of a 12 foot cliff, into which the adjacent river is eroding. Some areas have been left with a half-width trail and some dangerous sandy off-cambers.
